Who are Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion?
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are a select group of men and women chosen from the Catholic community who are active participants in the life of St. Mark Parish.
What are the duties of the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion?
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priest at the Eucharistic ceremony (Mass) by helping to distribute communion to the assembly and by visiting and bringing communion to the sick and homebound who are unable to attend Mass.
Who can be an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion?
Extrordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are selected and carefully screened by the Pastor.
What kind of training is required?
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are given training by the Pastor at St. Mark Parish at a designated time. Call the Parish Office at 410-744-6560, ext. 221 to apply.
How often does an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion work?
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion can elect to minister at the Mass, to visit the sick and homebound, or to do both; but generally, would work one Saturday or Sunday a month.
What if an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion is sick or on vacation?
He/she can trade with another Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion or call the Parish Secretary (410-744-6560, ext. 221) who will try to make arrangements for a substitute, only after the Extraordinary Minister has made an attempt to find a replacement.
How long of a committment is expected of a new Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion?
Generally two years. Most enjoy the Ministry so well they remain much longer.
